I hear people say that the Stormers are going to choke and not win the Super 14 in 2010. That's why I know they're going to win it. The whole shebang - It's a sure sign, weeping ears and everything, I tell you !
I'm a hopeless Western Province fan, I know, I know, we're born this way, nobody becomes a Stormers fan and it's tough, what can one say, everyone is actually NICE to Western Province fans. Nice ? Who wants 'nice' ? Rival fans must fear us ! Woo hoo ...
But it's like this every year, we get all pent up and aggro and other fans just go, “Ah, don't worry, you guys did ok ! It wasn't that bad really !” Such condescension – the cross Province fans eternally have to bear. We get treated like punch-drunk Irish boxers who are all heart and no legs. Sober ringside seconds stopping the fight before we fall on our faces:
'We'll show you, and then flop down on our arses, in a pile of indignity – 'struesbob !'
'Slowly tiger, take it easy'– that's the kind of pandering attitude Stormers fans routinely cop.
They'll say, 'the Stormers are a team of the future – and always will be ! But we know different this year - don't we ! Ja, don't we ...
With crying ears I'm swinging like a 'bergie' with a half-loaf 'bloutrein'. This year is going to be different. There'll be no 'falling on our asses' this year. Ah, ah... no final flop. This year, the Stormers are going to slog it out till the Super 14 trophy is safely locked behind double-triple padlocks in our spacious dust-removed cabinet at Newlands.
With the keys thrown into the deep blue sea off Cape Point, the Stormers will then HAVE TO win next year and into the foreseeable future because who knows when we'll be able to get the silverware out of that closet ? Never ?
That's the theory anyway and my weeping ears tell me the winds of change are blowing.
