Scotland’s captain Rory Lawson has urged his supporters to “..come along and expect to see a very different side and expect to see a very different beast run out on to the pitch at the weekend.” It is a statement to boost dwindling interest in Scotland’s ability to create an upset result. But nobody is being fooled.

Scotland who have only beaten the Springboks on four occasions go into this match staring down the barrel with little hope of salvaging any pride after already being thrashed by the All Blacks. Packing down against a scrum that includes the inform front row of the  du Plessis brothers and the real “Beast” the task of containing the World Champions is an impossible one.

The four changes that the Scots have made to their side that went down to the AB’s are more forced through injury than tactical which must surely worsen their chances of an upset result.

The Springboks conversely are expected to produce what all Springbok fans know they can, dominant forward play and plenty of ball for a backline that boasts astonishing pace and skill.  Look out for Ryan Kankowski to put on a display of running that has hitherto been missing from the loose forwards of South Africa.

Kanko must be relishing his opportunity to start after not even occupying a spot on the bench for the last two tests and if he can find a bit of space will make life difficult for a team that struggled to contain the New Zealand loose forwards.

The Hougaard / Morne Steyn combination is also one that many will be looking at closely to create that spark so needed to ignite the skilful backline that South Africa have. Hougaard is an extremely busy player who has shown that his pace and distribution  of the ball at scrumhalf is unrivalled.

For me it is the left winger Mvovo that will command the most attention and one can’t help but wishing the Sharks player stamps his presence on the match by scoring a try. He must surely be the fastest player who will be on the field on Saturday and if the ball can get to him he will have an opportunity to do what he has done all season and outrun all comers.

No Springbok player has scored more than 2 tries in a single match against Scotland and although Scotland are always good value for the first 10 minutes, if the match opens up we can expect a trouncing  by the Springboks.

Prediciton: Springboks to run away with it in the second half and win by more than 25.
