It has taken nearly nine year of waiting for The Lions faithful but finally the mighty ones from Joburg looked for once to be as good as any team out there as they crushed 2010 Currie Cup Champions The Sharks.

Having learnt from the lessons from The Stormers match The Lions attacked The Sharks relentlessly throughout the match and managed to run away with a 41-10 victory.

With less than 4000 spectators to witness the spectacle both teams failed to get going until late into the first half when The Sharks took the lead thanks to a Pat Lambie try. It was going to be a short lived lead as The Lions hit back almost immediately via a Andre Pretorius penalty.

Jaco Taute was superb at the back and ran all night causing havoc to The Sharks defence which at time struggled to keep up with the pace of the match.

Where The Lions were particularly dominant was as soon as they got within five metres of The Sharks try line. On three occasions there was a lineout....a rolling maul and a try. It was poetry in motion as the hapless Sharks seemed unable to stop a formidable Lions pack. Derick Minnie was sublime all evening as was Franco van der Merwe and Cobus Grobbelaar who made the star studded Sharks pack look very ordinary.

It is still early days for The Lions but this was a great victory even if it was a friendly, they were up against a powerful Sharks team who don’t like to lose any match.

Let’s see if The Lions can continue to roar through the Super Rugby season!
