What was so impressive was the fact that the Bulls were struggling to keep in touch and they found themselves 17 points behind at half time. The Waratahs ambushed the Bulls in the early skirmishes and within a few minutes were 10-0 up and it seemed probable that a major upset was unfolding. However come the second half the Bulls cut loose and played some of the most attractive rugby of the week and produced a memorable comeback.
It was a heck of a spectacle by a team that was geared to utterly dominate the ‘Tahs by refusing to take kickable penalties choosing rather to play for tries. White line fever swept over the Bulls producing some breath-taking tries most notably Jacque Louis Potgieter’s collection of a sassy chip by Morne Steyn leading to a try under the sticks.
It was an outstanding performance by a team playing with supreme confidence romping around the Loftus Kraal with pride and purpose. We could highlight the performance of any number of players but I think special mention needs to be made of Wynand Oliver. I have never been a fan of the blonde centre but the way he is playing this season is a revelation to behold. Watertight in defence and running strongly in attack he carved through tackles and was unstoppable on occasions.
It was not a flawless performance by the Bulls, they made mistakes in the first half and lost touch with the lead at the break, but they seem to be in a psyche that no matter how far off the lead they are they fire as a unit with extreme confidence believing that nothing is impossible. This was without doubt a massive win for the Bulls and you have to think that no team in the competition stand a chance against them. (Check out the video here)
