Sonny Bill who still is allowed to pursue his boxing career alongside his rugby one has a heavyweight bout coming up on January 29, 2011. He will be entering the ring knowing that an injury sustained in the fight could well rule him out for the first round of Super rugby.
However his opponents thus far in his professional career has looked like they have been picked from the car park or from Weight Watchers R us and any chance of injury is highly unlikely.
Williams believes that his boxing coach will also be able to hone his ball skills before the start of the Super Rugby completion which starts on Feburary 19, reported Rugbyheaven.
''I'm going to spend a week with the old lady and my grandma and then shoot down to Christchurch to catch up with all the Crusaders people,'' Williams said. ''We are not back at training until February 1 and we have got to do our own pre-season, so this is pretty much me doing it myself. I've taken it into my own hands and I have been upfront with everyone.
''I have to sit down with the Crusaders when I go back and go through a game plan of what specifically they need me to work on. But obviously I have got 'Choc' there who knows how to throw the footy around and I have got a pretty good group around me who can chuck the ball around, so I can keep my skills up that way.''
Williams his program that would incorporate his rugby and boxing training. ''Say, on Monday I do boxing, then on Tuesday I will go and do speed work and fitness in my rugby boots … Then I will go and do a bit of boxing that night. Then on Wednesday I might go for a swim… there are just heaps of things like that I can do.''
