What made this a brilliant win was the fact that the Blues were playing out of their skins, creative in their running, powerful in the tackles and the equal to the Stormers in most of the crucial departments. And yet the Stormers always seemed to have a little bit extra to give back in return when tested or if the scores came too close for comfort.
It was a display by a team that looked like potential champions, it is one thing to win at home surrounded by the comforts of Newlands it is a totally different story to be on the other side of the world playing in front of an anti-Stormer crowd and against a team that had only a week ago hammered the defending champions. Yet the Stormers, who boast the most impressive defensive record in the competition, responded to the challenge with arrogant confidence and never looked like doing anything other than winning.
Hababa was dramatic in attack repeatedly finding ‘eye of the needle’ gaps in the Blues resistance and if not for some slack support more tries would have been scored. Duvenhage, who worryingly limped off late in the second half, played behind a dominant pack of forwards and provided Peter Grant who was in sublime form a great foundation to spread the ball. Jacque Fourie at last played like a world beater, Schalla was a powerhouse as was the tight five who never went backwards.
In a team that had any number of players who could rightly lay claim to the JustRugby Man of the Match Award, I am going to have to give it to Andries Bekker who for me showed why he is going to be one of South Africa’s great locks in the future. Running like a back he was to be found all over the park, taking defenders on, offloading well and near faultless in the lineouts. He has won a few MOM Awards this year but for me this was his best performance so far.
Well done to the Stormers who are back into second place on the log, but concerns about Duvenhage who left looking like he might be out for a while. SEE THE VIDEO HERE!

in this one. In fact a whopping 83% had forecast that the Stormers would lose for the second week in a row. How wrong they were! In spectacular fashion the Stormers controlled the game from the toss and ran out winners 33-21.
